Empathize

The inhabitation of Nickerie are immigrants of Indonesia and British India. They all brought their culture to Suriname. Nickerie lies in the young coastal plain and it’s very productive to cultivate rice. These two populations were practicing in the beginning and it’s a process that’s still going on. Rice is the main product for the population of Suriname. Most of these people are depended on the rice crops.

If the crops fail, they have too much problems, for example:

• Debt

• No income

• Bankrupt

• And the inhabitants of Suriname will have to pay a high price for a bag of rice

Our farmers have to struggle day and night to get a successful crop. Besides planting rice they don’t have another job. With the income they have to take care of their family. Low income leads to a lot of problems such as debts, high blood pressure, heart attacks etc.

The price for rice has been a problem for years and it still is. Now we want to educate our students how to increase rice crops and its quality so we can compete with other countries.
